Savage Arena
The University of Toledo will celebrate the inauguration of James Paul Holloway, Ph.D., as the university’s 19th president with an installation ceremony Thursday, Oct. 16, at 3 p.m. in Savage Arena. The ceremony will be preceded by an academic march from the Thompson Student Union (weather permitting) and will be followed by a public reception in the West Concourse of Savage Arena.
About Dr. Holloway
Dr. James Holloway joined The University of Toledo on July 15 as its 19th president.
A nuclear engineer, President Holloway joins UToledo from the University of New Mexico, where he served as provost and executive vice president for academic affairs for the last six years. During his tenure there, new first-year students increased by more than 40%, academic research expenditures grew by 46% and philanthropic giving doubled.
Prior to New Mexico, Dr. Holloway served two decades at the University of Michigan as a professor and researcher and in leadership roles that included vice provost for global engagement and interdisciplinary academic affairs, vice provost for global and engaged education and associate dean for undergraduate education in the College of Engineering.
Dr. Holloway earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in nuclear engineering from the University of Illinois, completed advanced graduate work in mathematics at Cambridge University, and earned a doctorate in engineering physics from the University of Virginia.
Born into an Army family in Washington, D.C., Dr. Holloway has lived and worked in England, Ethiopia, Germany, Ghana, India and Thailand, as well as six different states. He and his wife, Johnna, have one son, Patrick.
